Turban squash is such a beautiful thing to see in the fall here in Florida. I painted this from life and it is a backlit subject which just felt right to me. The only light came from a window across the room which threw the squash into a mellow sort of shadow which brought out some richness in the colors and toned down the brassiness of the red orange.
